《Feedbacks of 2024SS English Chit Chat Salon》

Ram/ Russia/ Food Science

Everything is fine to me. I’m glad to attend this kind of activity. It helps me to improve my English. I used to get together and meet with guys and the coordinator. Hope that next year the club will open too. We can discuss other topics and can invite new students. Thank you.

As for me, I really enjoy the English speaking club. I’ve obtained an opportunity to improve my English proficiency. Met new people. The atmosphere is always friendly. I like our meetings very much.

I don’t particularly make any real new friends but the one thing I must compliment about this whole salon thing is that this place really gave me a relaxing vibe and I appreciate it.

I regret I couldn’t have known this earlier!

It was great sharing all those moments with people from different cultures. I really enjoyed presenting specific aspects of French culture and then discussing a lot of various topics. I was happy to make friends that I wouldn’t have known if it wasn’t for the salon.

I appreciated when there was a reduced number of people because I could talk with everybody but I also liked larger groups because I think the exchanges were also super interesting.

Overall great experience!

I joined the English Chit Chat Salon from the very start. It was the first semester of freshman year when I joined, the Salons were hosted by Sheila at the time. Every week, Sheila put in so much effort into the Salon and made everyone feel welcome, and prepared snacks and some activities. We talked about languages, cultures, food, and more from all around the world. We got to talk to a few international students, including students from France, Germany, Japan, Russia and more later on.

In the second semester, the Salon was passed onto me to host, since I speak both English and Chinese fluently, Sheila trusted me to deliver the best the Salon can offer. With trial and error in the first few weeks, I’m getting better at hosting, but there are still improvements to be made for sure. I want to try my best, and give everyone a safe space with no judgment to talk about their lives, hobbies, emotions, and the chance to practice speaking in English. The topics of each week are different, ranging from casual chats about life and diving deep into more complex topics like Psychology and Philosophy, which are important to learn in life in my and Sheila’s opinion.

Looking back on how far I’ve come in just this semester makes me proud of myself, for the willingness to try. My hosting is far from perfect, but I will try to improve whenever there’s feedback! With that said, dear reader, you’re very welcome to join us. I’m sure you’ll have a good time and learn something, whether it’s about yourself or something existing in the world.

I love this salon very much. I met a lot of friends from different departments, and all of us are trying to improve our English. It also means that we have some common interests in studying. I like that we can discuss and share our own opinions and respect others. I especially like it when we discuss love relationships. Through this topic I can understand myself more about it and I can think about love relationship things in an objective way.
